Mourant Makes a Slam Dunk

Mourant Comes On Board as Sponsor of Inter-Primary School Boys & Girls Basketball Leagues

The Cayman Islands Basketball Association (CIBA) is proud to welcome Mourant as an official sponsor of our Inter-Primary School Boys and Girls Basketball Leagues, a partnership that directly supports youth development and grassroots sport in the Cayman Islands.

The Inter-Primary School League continues to experience strong growth year over year, and the 2025 season has been especially encouraging, featuring 31 boys’ and girls’ teams from primary schools across the island. This level of participation reflects the increasing enthusiasm for basketball at the grassroots level and the important role school sports play in physical development, teamwork, and character building.

Mourant’s sponsorship has had an immediate and tangible impact. Their support helped cover uniforms for all participating schools, ensuring that every child is able to take the court feeling confident, included, and proud to represent their school. Providing uniforms across the league not only promotes equality among participants but also enhances the overall experience for students, teachers, and parents alike.

“At CIBA, our mission is to grow the game from the ground up,” said CIBA President Collin Anglin. “Support from corporate partners like Mourant makes a real difference. Their investment goes beyond sponsorship — it’s an investment in youth, education, and the future of basketball in the Cayman Islands.”

The Inter-Primary School League serves as a critical foundation within CIBA’s player development pathway. Many of today’s national and club-level athletes first discovered their love for the game through school competitions like this one. With continued growth and strong partnerships, CIBA remains committed to expanding opportunities for young players across all communities.

CIBA extends its sincere thanks to Mourant for their commitment to youth sport and for helping make this season of the Inter-Primary School League one of our most successful yet. We look forward to building on this partnership and continuing to create meaningful sporting opportunities for Cayman’s young athletes.

CIBA Hosts Successful FIBA Coaching Course for Teachers

On January 13th, the Cayman Islands Basketball Association (CIBA) successfully hosted a FIBA Starter Coaching Course focused on youth basketball development, marking another important milestone in the continued growth of basketball education in the Cayman Islands.

The course brought together 20 teachers from both public and private schools, highlighting a strong, collaborative commitment to developing quality coaching at the grassroots level. By equipping educators with foundational basketball coaching principles, the initiative directly supports the long-term development of young athletes across the island.

This event was organized by CIBA in collaboration with the Department of Education Services (DES) and was conducted by world-renowned FIBA Coaching Instructor, Coach Nelson Isley. Coach Isley’s expertise and engaging teaching approach provided participants with practical tools, age-appropriate methodologies, and a deeper understanding of how to introduce basketball in a safe, structured, and enjoyable way for young players.

The course content was specifically tailored to youth basketball, with a strong emphasis on player-centered coaching, fundamental skill development, positive learning environments, and age-appropriate training concepts. Teachers participated in both classroom-based learning and interactive discussions, allowing them to immediately connect theory to real-world school and community settings.

“The success of this course demonstrates the value of collaboration between sport governing bodies and the education system,” said CIBA President Collin Anglin. “By investing in our teachers, we are investing in the future of basketball and youth development in the Cayman Islands.”

CIBA extends sincere thanks to the Department of Education Services, Mrs Kerry Jones, Miss Kiva Powell, Coach Nelson Isley, and all participating teachers for their enthusiasm and commitment to growing the game at the grassroots level. Initiatives like this continue to strengthen the foundation of basketball in the Cayman Islands and ensure that young players receive quality instruction from their very first introduction to the sport.
